“Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water, and came toward Jesus.” Matthew 14:28-29, NIV Have you ever faced a situation where everything seemed out of control, and you felt overwhelmed by a storm of problems? In those moments, we long for a solution, a way to rise above the chaos and find peace and security. When Peter saw Jesus walking on water, he had a choice – stay in the boat, scared and stuck, or take a bold step of trust. He chose the latter, believing beyond himself by trusting Jesus when He called him to do the impossible.
Trusting Jesus to walk on water is crucial because we often encounter storms – challenges, uncertainties, and demanding situations that leave us feeling overwhelmed and afraid. These storms can take various forms, such as personal struggles, family issues, work-related stress, or health concerns. Like the disciples on the stormy sea, we may find ourselves battling against the raging waves of life, desperately trying to keep our heads above water. In such moments, fear and confusion can grip our hearts, and we might feel trapped in a boat, unable to escape the turmoil around us. Amid the chaos, we may even question whether we can find hope or security. Trusting Jesus means letting go of our fears and doubts and embracing His power and love. Like Peter, we must believe that Jesus is with us, even in the scariest moments. Remember the story of David facing the giant Goliath? He stepped out in faith, trusting that God would navigate him through turbulent waters and deliver him. With a simple slingshot, he defeated the giant. Amid life’s storms, remember to trust Jesus. Take that step of faith, and He will lead you through turbulent waters. Trusting Jesus to walk on water doesn’t guarantee that everything will be easy or free of challenges. It’s not about having all the answers or controlling the situation. Instead, it’s about having faith in His guidance and believing He will never leave or forsake us during life’s storms. So, as you face difficult situations in life, remember to trust Jesus. Just like Peter walked on water and David defeated the giant, you, too, can experience the extraordinary when you trust Jesus to guide and empower you through life’s storms. Prayer: Gracious God, I extend my heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering presence during every storm I encounter. Grant me the strength to place complete trust in you and instill within me the courage to embrace your calling in faith. As I navigate life's trials, may your guiding hand lead me, and may your empowering grace enable me to fulfill your destined purpose. With this prayer, I place our utmost faith in your divine guidance. Amen. Challenge: This week, when you encounter a challenging situation, practice trusting Jesus. Instead of worrying or panicking, take a moment to pray and hand over your fears to Him. Embrace His peace and let Him guide you through the storm. Faithfully yours, Danny C. Murphy General Presbyter
