June 19, 2021: Juneteenth, Happy Freedom Day!
“Emancipation wasn’t a gift bestowed on the slaves; it was something they took for themselves, the culmination of their long struggle for freedom, which began as soon as chattel slavery was established in the 17th century, and gained even greater steam with the Revolution and the birth of a country committed, at least rhetorically, to freedom and equality. In fighting that struggle, black Americans would open up new vistas of democratic possibility for the entire country.”- Jamelle Bouie June 20, 2021: Father's Day “She did not stand alone, but what stood behind her, the most potent moral force in her life, was the love of her father.” -Harper Lee June 20, 2021: Refugee Day “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to be free.” June 27, 2021: World AIDS Sunday "People with HIV and AIDS are nothing to be afraid of. They are people just like every single one of us, and each has a story to tell. These people should be helped, embraced, and not dismissed. We need to open our hearts and our minds to them, and we just may learn we're pretty much all the same." -Lisa Lampanelli AIDS Worship (from the PCUSA)
