Earth Sunday and Beyond

On Sunday, April 20th many churches celebrated Earth
Sunday. Events ranged from earth-friendly meals to sermons based
on God's gift to us - this beautiful earthly home. As Christians
we are called to care for this planet - not because we worship the
creatures but because we worship the Creator. God made all
things "good" and for our use - not abuse.
Westminster Presbyterian
Church in Columbia is now a certified Wildlife Habitat.
The certificate was presented during the April 20th worship service.
Also, 16 church members have had their yards certified as well.
Forest Lake Presbyterian was
certified last year and has been active in the larger community in
their environmental efforts. May these two churches inspire
other congregations to follow suit!
The National Council of Churches of Christ presented
PC(USA) with a tree to be planted on the grounds of the
denomination's headquarters in Louisville in celebration of
Earth Day and the ecological vision contained in the new ecumenical
Social Creed.

Footcare Ministry in Trinity Presbytery Goes Mobile

In the above file photo, Sarah Disasa visits with a
guest during a weekly footcare ministry session at Christ Central
Ministry in Columbia.
On Saturday, April 19th, members of the Footcare Ministry from
Eastminster
Presbyterian Church in Columbia participated in Mission:
Possible II - a day of service in the community. One of the
service projects was foot-washing at
The Salvation Army
in downtown Columbia. The weekly footcare ministry usually meets
at Christ Central Ministry
in Columbia. But on this day, the volunteers went "mobile" .
Johnnie Pearce, coordinator of the Footcare Ministry put
her thoughts about the day down on paper.

beautifully written account.
